Belvoir Castle is one of the finest examples of Regency architecture in England. The castle seen today was built for the 5th Duke and Duchess of Rutland by the architect James Wyatt, who also contributed to the design of Windsor Castle - one of the reasons why the Leicestershire castle was chosen as a filming location for Netflix's The Crown.
The Leicestershire castle was given the French name Belvoir - meaning beautiful view - now pronounced 'beaver'. It is home to Capability Brown's final grand garden design and features exquisite interiors and priceless works of art. Walk around the Castle, and marvel at the opulent State Rooms from the showstopping Regent's Gallery to the breathtaking Elizabeth Saloon.
The Engine Yard artisan shopping village right next to Belvoir Castle offers boutique shopping in a range of beautifully restored Victorian estate buildings as well as places to eat and drink while enjoying the lovely countryside views.
A programme of castle and garden events means there's always something new to discover from the popular Belvoir Castle Flower & Garden Show (15-16 July) to the historical weekends celebrating different moments in history with costumed re-enactments and entertainments, to the festive season running from mid November that sees the Regency castle transformed for a magical experience.
