At the heart of the Heart of England is Birmingham, one of the top cities in the world attracting over 34 million visitors a year and named the UK's most entrepreneurial city outside of London. It is a dynamic, creative city that is constantly evolving and Birmingham's art collection is as wide as it is impressive. From the world's largest collection of pre-Raphaelite artwork and a creative hub packed with new artists, it is true there are more than 500,000 works of art in one square mile.

Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery has over 40 galleries to explore that display art, applied art, social history, and archaeology. It is home to the largest collection of pre-Raphaelite artwork in the world, as well as collections of silver, sculpture, ceramics and ancient and social history galleries.

Birmingham's unique Jewellery Quarter is home to Europe's largest school of jewellery. There's a number of galleries showcasing work including the UK's second oldest independent art gallery; the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.

The Barber Institute of Fine Arts has an outstanding collection of Old Masters alongside and modern classics, where you will see works by Rubens, Gainsborough, Rossetti, Monet, Degas and Magritte.

Step back in time at the award winning Black Country Living Museum and join in with 300 years of history like no other. Immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of the past as you explore period shops and houses and discover what it was like to live and work in one of the world's most industrialised landscapes.

Discover the art of legging inside the fantastic Dudley Canal Tunnel and Limestone Mines. Experience the 45 minute skipper guided tour, watch the light spectacular show and the audio visual display inside the caverns. Explore the Portal Building gift shop and educational interpretation. Visit the 'Gongoozler' restaurant, offering a selection of food and drink by the canal side.
