Lincoln has a rich aviation heritage, stretching from World War I through to the present day. During World War 2, Lincolnshire became known as 'Bomber County'. However, the region's rich heritage goes back to World War1 when the City of Lincoln was the centre of the UK’s fledgling aviation industry. At its peak, the city was one of the largest aircraft production areas in the world, producing more than 3,500 aircraft and 3,000 aero engines. Why not visit Ayscoughfee Hall Museum, it is set in a Medieval Hall dating back to around 1451.
This fascinating grade I listed building includes exhibitions, displays and educational opportunities for all to enjoy. There's always something going on at Ayscoughfee, whether it's concerts, theatrical performances, craft sessions or art exhibitions. Who would have thought that the roots of America stretch back to Lincolnshire, while the county gave birth to one of the world's major religions?
Follow in the footsteps of the Pilgrim Fathers at Boston Guildhall, a stunning medieval building where they were once imprisoned. Visit the birthplace of John Wesley, founder of Methodism, at Epworth Rectory the family home. Cultural hotspots. You can't go far wrong exploring Lincolnshire Cultural Quarter Lincoln Drill Hall, originally a military and police training hall, is a thriving venue, while the 19th century Lincoln Theatre Royal is home to everything from family panto to ballet. The Collection is a striking, award winning museum and a top tip for any visitor while the Engine Shed is the region's largest live music and entertainment venue.
