If you are looking to learn more about the county of Sussex, then we've listed some of our favourites. You will find plenty of things to do in Horsham so why not visit Horsham Museum and Art gallery, it's free! The museum is found in the picturesque Causeway and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm.
They have a number of different galleries and exhibitions and a busy schedule of events. You can learn about period costumes, local photography, art and local artists, archaeological finds or just grab details of their self-guided heritage trails, it's an excellent starting point for learning about the town. From the museum, you can pick up details of a few different heritage trails in and around the town each trail is dedicated to a different area of the district and includes sites of special interest and stories from all eras of the area's past.
The Weald and Downland Museum is an open-air museum with plenty of activities and acres to explore giving you a real sense of what it would be like back in the day. The museum includes historic buildings, traditional cooking, agriculture, farming and livestock, crafting demonstrations as well as plenty of events and family activities all year round. Explore Chichester's finest The Novium Museum in Chichester is an award-winning museum showcasing three floors of exhibitions and allowing you to discover Chichester's Roman past and remains of a Roman bath house. You can visit Pallant House Gallery with one of their guides and let them share their knowledge and passion for the artists and works in the Pallant collection.
They will take you on a journey through Modern British art from 1900 to the present day and give you the opportunity to experience highlights of the collection on display, such as Barbara Hepworth's?Figure (Walnut)?(1964) and Michael Andrews's? Thames Painting: The Estuary?(1994-5) Staying Nr Chichester you will find the Tangmere Military Aviation Museum, located in a corner of the former Tangmere airfield, famed as an RAF fighter station from 1918 until Fighter Command left in 1958 and well worth a visit or two. Tucked away down a quiet street in Petworth is the Petworth Cottage Museum, showcasing a worker's cottage belonging to Mrs Mary Cummings, which has been restored as it might have been in around 1910. The rooms you can discover include a cottage garden, scullery, bedroom, attic, cellar, sewing room and living room.
